Six Mistakes That Could Increase Your Chances Of Developing Prostate Cancer

by Fred Davidson

If you want to minimize your chances of developing prostate cancer, it's important that you develop good habits. There are a lot of habits that could increase your chances of developing this type of cancer

The following are six mistakes that could make it more likely for you to experience prostate cancer

Continuing to smoke

If you smoke, you should definitely stop right away if you are concerned for the health of your prostate.

Smoking increases a patient's chances of developing prostate cancer and just about every other type of cancer. Patients who have already been treated for prostate cancer also have a higher chance of experiencing a recurrence of prostate cancer if they smoke.

Consuming excessive amounts of animal fats

Consumption of high amounts of animal fats has been shown to have a possible link with prostate cancer. Switching animal fats like butter and lard with plant-based fats like olive oil can help a patient to bring down his risk of prostate cancer.

Failing to eat enough foods that contain lycopene

Lycopene is an antioxidant that is found in red foods, including watermelons and tomatoes. Men who get a lot of lycopene in their diet have been shown in studies to be less at risk for prostate cancer than men who don't consume as much lycopene.

It's therefore a good idea to do some research on lycopene-rich foods and add them to your diet.

Consuming a diet that includes a lot of dairy

Some studies have shown a possible link between diets that are high in dairy and prostate cancer risk. Consuming dairy products like cheese and milk with excessive frequency is therefore a bad idea for men who are trying to minimize their prostate cancer risk.

Eating a lot of red meat or processed meats

You've probably already heard that red meats and processed meats are not the healthiest protein source out there for those who are striving to stay cancer-free. Diets high in red meats and processed meats have been shown to put patients more at risk for developing many types of cancer.

Procrastinating about discussing possible prostate problems with your doctor

The earlier prostate issues can be detected, the more easily prostate cancer can be prevented or treated once it develops.

That's why it's so important to talk to your doctor immediately about any symptoms that could potentially indicate an unhealthy prostate. These include difficult urination, pelvic discomfort, and blood in the semen or urine.
