3 Things To Do At Home When Repairing For Knee Surgery Recovery

by Fred Davidson

Your knees are one of the primary joints in your legs that make mobility possible. Therefore, when something happens to one or both of your knees, it can make getting around extremely difficult. There are a lot of reasons why you may have to have knee surgery, whether it is for a knee replacement or otherwise. These surgeries are usually designed to help you stay mobile, but there is a temporary recovery period afterwards that may leave you less mobile than usual. Because of this, it is important that you get your home ready for the recovery process before the scheduled date of knee surgery arrives.

Consider renting an electric lift chair.

Your usual seats in the living rooms, whether it is a couch or regular recliner, tend to sit pretty low to the ground. Therefore, getting up from a seated position will put a lot of strain on your knees. To make sure you do not injure yourself when trying to get up, it may be a good idea to rent a lift chair or electric recliner temporarily while you recover. These chairs automatically boost upwards slowly when you press a button to help push you up to a stand so you don't have to strain yourself getting up.

Make sure you have ready-to-eat foods available.

Standing for long periods after knee surgery will likely be out of the question, so cooking meals while on your feet for long periods will be impossible. If you will be caring for yourself after surgery, it's important that you consider this before you actually have surgery. Stock your fridge with meals you can quickly grab, heat up in the microwave, and get back to a resting position. Remember also, squatting down to get into lower cabinets will probably not be possible, so you may want to move anything you think you'll need to a higher cabinet.

Get a potty seat to keep in your room.

An adult potty chair acts as a portable toilet for patients with mobility issues and is a good investment for your knee surgery recovery. In the middle of the night especially, if you wake up and need to go, it can be harder than usual for you to get to the restroom in time. Therefore, having a portable potty in your room with you at night will prevent you having an accident or injuring yourself because you are rushing to get to the bathroom in time.
